True stories from a suburban family who bought 15 acres of cow pasture knowing a lot less than we thought we did.
In August 2020 we ended up with 15-plus acres of flies and cow pies. We’d read the books, watched the videos, and heard the advice to start slow. Then we immediately ignored that advice. This is what happened next.
Who’s talking

I’m Mindy: wife, mother in a big blended family (plus a steady stream of grandkids), full-time employee in a job that has nothing to do with farming, and a suburbanite relocated to the Southeast, very happily. I’m usually overwhelmed and behind on everything while starting something else. The most important thing I can say about myself is that I endeavor to center my life on Jesus.
My husband, Ace, is quiet, capable, inventive, and a threat in any dad-joke competition. Animals and babies love him on sight. As for the kids, only The Dreamy One and The Literal One are still living at home. The other six are off living their dreams, but have lots of opinions (and occasional comments) on my life choices.

The farm purists would say we aren’t really homesteading. We aren’t off the grid, and we still hit the drive-through after a trip to the mall. But we have goals.
